With PECO Ways to Save incentives, a wholesale food distributor recently made LED lighting upgrades, achieving significant energy and cost savings while reducing its environmental impact.

A global food distributor expanded its Philadelphia facility into a 5,800-square-foot dry, cooler, and freezer warehouse. Leveraging PECO Ways to Save incentives, the company upgraded to LED lighting, resulting in major energy and cost savings and a reduced environmental footprint.

Sustainability Goals

As an industry leader, the distributor is committed to addressing climate change and sustainability. Goals include cutting emissions, reducing their carbon footprint, responsibly sourcing products, engaging in philanthropy and electrifying their distribution fleet.

Upgrading to LEDs

The distributor saw an opportunity to reduce its environmental impact and operational costs by upgrading to interior and exterior LED lighting at its Philadelphia location. A contractor assessed the lighting savings potential for the building and parking lot, and the installation was completed in May 2023.

Interior Lighting Benefits

The new LED lighting illuminates hard-to-see areas, helping maintain a cleaner facility. Benefits include fewer bulb replacements and savings on disposal costs, as LEDs last longer and do not contain mercury.

Exterior Lighting Benefits

Enhanced safety was a major driver for the upgrades. The parking lot, previously dim, is now brightly illuminated, significantly improving safety.

PECO Ways to Save Incentives Light the Way to Energy Savings

The project qualified for $329,155 in PECO Ways to Save incentives. The process from applying for incentives to completing the upgrades was seamless. As a result, the distributor will save over $331,000 annually in estimated energy costs^* while committing to environmentally friendly changes.
